101 Recipes That Use Maple Syrup (2024)

I love supporting local families who produce maple syrup, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy tapping the two black maple trees in our yard. We’re lucky if we get a gallon of syrup, but it’s our syrup. We’re the type of people who get joy from sitting down to a meal where there’s something on our plate that we produced ourselves from our quarter acre lot.

Is Maple Syrup Healthy?

Yes, maple syrup is a sugar. And as such, should be used moderately. But sometimes something sweet is called for, and for us, that’s the time for an unrefined sugar.

Maple syrup has a lower glycemic index than refined white sugar which means that it is more slowly digested and causes a slower rise in blood glucose levels than sugar.

In addition, maple syrup supplies some vitamins, trace minerals, and anti-oxidants to the diet. It’s a better choice than refined white sugar, but meant for the occasional treat.

And if your interested in learning how to substitute maple syrup for white sugar in recipes, Homespun Seasonal Living has you covered.

Using Maple Syrup

Sugar, whether in the form of maple syrup, honey, or coconut sugar, lasts quite a while in our house. We are not opposed to a sweet treat here and there, and we even like to sometimes make a savory dish that calls for some sweetness.

We make pancakes or waffles a few times a year, and what would they be without real maple syrup? And a teaspoon of syrup in homemade salad dressing makes it special, too.

Holidays and birthdays wouldn’t be the same without something sweet, and Maple Pecan Pie is one of my absolute favorites for any occasion.
