Traditional Easter crafts & decorations

Easter crafts have been made for hundreds of years. Some traditions have stuck for generations of families, with each year bringing new crafting delights.

50+ Quick & Easy Easter Crafts for Kids & Adults (2)

What are traditional Easter crafts?

Many families have sentimental handmade items that they bring out every Easter – similar to how you might have cherished Christmas decorations that are passed down through the family line.

There are also perishable Easter crafts that require making year-after-year, for example traditional Easter cakes and biscuits, plus indoor decorations that use fresh Spring flowers such as tulips or daffodils.

50+ Quick & Easy Easter Crafts for Kids & Adults (3)

Traditional Easter crafts include:

  • DIY Easter hampers and gift baskets
  • Table decorations and centrepieces
  • Floral wreaths
  • Greetings cards
  • Indoor & outdoor decorations
  • Baked goods such as Simnel cake
  • Blown Easter eggs and dyed eggs

DIY Easter table settings

A wonderful Easter tradition is to celebrate Easter Sunday with a family meal. In the UK, this is usually a lamb roast dinner.

Many families choose to decorate their dining tables to make the Easter meal even more special. This could be something as simple as putting some fresh flowers in a vase, or you could really go-to-town with your indoor Easter crafts and create a decorated table that’s truly magnificent.

What crafts can you make for Easter?

Of course, crafting for Easter isn’t just limited to creating decorations for your table or your home.

There are many different types of crafts that you can make for Easter. These include practical crafts such as gift hampers for children or adults, as well as crafts that you simply do just for fun with no intention of displaying them.

I’ve put together a selection of my favourite Easter craft projects from around the internet. I hope you like them too!

How to make religious Easter crafts

Religious Easter crafts are so beautiful, not only in the craftmanship shown but also in that they show the true meaning of Easter.

These Christian Easter crafts could be made by you or your children at home, or you could even turn them into group activities for your church.

50+ Quick & Easy Easter Crafts for Kids & Adults (5)

Running a craft session at your church can be a wonderful way to get the community involved and it’s a great bonding experience for you and your fellow worshippers.

If your church runs a Sunday school for children, why not offer to help run a session and do some crafting with the kids?

Here are some Christ-centred Easter crafts that you could try making this year. Many of them focus on Jesus’ sacrifice and miraculous resurrection, to keep the true meaning of Easter close to your heart.

Easter egg crafts

Did you know that eggs are considered symbols of new life, fertility and rebirth?

For Christians, the Easter egg is a symbolic representation of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The empty egg represents the empty tomb of Jesus after His resurrection.

Originally it was real eggs that were emptied of their contents and dyed red in memory and respect of the blood the Jesus shed during his crucifixion.

50+ Quick & Easy Easter Crafts for Kids & Adults (6)

Nowadays however, the term ‘Easter egg’ is sure to make you think of chocolate! It’s become commonplace to celebrate Easter with the giving of chocolate or candy eggs.

However, let’s not let chocolate have all the fun! As much as I LOVE a good chocolate egg (especially DARK chocolate – mmmm!), Easter eggs are also great fun as a theme to craft with!

Here are some egg-cellent (sorry, couldn’t resist the pun!) crafty ideas:

Bunny crafts

It’s unknown where the concept of the Easter bunny came from – it’s certainly not mentioned in the Bible. Many people believe that its first introduction to America came in the 1700s with German immigrants. They introduced their tradition of an egg-laying hare at Easter time, and the idea became so popular that others started to celebrate it too.

For modern celebrations, the Easter bunny is the wonderful creature who hides Easter eggs and treats around the garden or outside areas for children to find.

50+ Quick & Easy Easter Crafts for Kids & Adults (7)

Some children even leave out carrots in expectation of his arrival – just like how they leave mince pies and carrots for Santa and his reindeer at Christmas.

I think rabbits and bunnies are simple adorable; especially in the following craft projects:

Spring crafts

If you don’t celebrate Easter but are still looking for some relevant craft ideas to make this season, you could make some Spring crafts instead.

These craft projects celebrate the best of the Spring season, without being related to Easter or religion in any way.

50+ Quick & Easy Easter Crafts for Kids & Adults (8)

Many of them focus on the stunning flowers that are available at this time of year. For a longer-lasting Spring craft project, try replacing the real flowers with artificial ones for a creation that you can bring out year-after-year.

Non-chocolate Easter gift ideas

If you ask most children about the best part of Easter, they’ll probably say the chocolate Easter eggs!

If you’re trying to limit your child’s sugar intake this Easter, you’ll love these non-chocolate Easter gift ideas. All these suggestions can be handmade, and I’ve linked to tutorials on how to make them – but if you’re not a crafter you could probably find something similar in stores.

50+ Quick & Easy Easter Crafts for Kids & Adults (9)

Some of these DIY no-chocolate gift ideas are still edible, but healthier than chocolate, and others are activity packs or games to entertain your children this Spring.

Best materials for making DIY Easter crafts

In order to get your DIY hat on this Easter, you’ll need to make sure you have some suitable materials sitting in your craft stash.

50+ Quick & Easy Easter Crafts for Kids & Adults (10)

Some of the Easter crafting materials and supplies I have bought ready for this year include:

If you’re looking to make cheap Easter decorations then don’t be afraid to browse your local thrift stores/charity shops or dollar stores to find suitable materials.

If you live in the UK, you might be lucky enough to live near a Scrapstore. These are wonderful charity initiatives that are full of wonderful materials that get donated from businesses and local people which are then sold at low prices.

50+ Quick & Easy Easter Crafts for Kids & Adults (11)

My local Scrapstore lets you fill a whole shopping trolley for just £15 or a basket for £6. I always come out with (at least) a basket overflowing with scrap pieces of material, foam pieces, mason jars, paint and so many more things that I pick up ‘just in case’ it might come in handy one day.

I have quite the collection of odds-and-ends at home. In fact, I’m almost out of space – which I think means I just need to do more crafting to clear some room! 🙂

Ideas for easy Easter crafts

Personally, I think the best crafts are often the ones that are quick and easy to complete. I tend to get frustrated if I’m doing a particularly time-intensive DIY (for example my unicorn button art frame) which is why most of the craft projects on this blog are nice and simple!

One of my go-to resources for easy craft project inspiration is Pinterest. I spend WAY too long on there looking at all the amazing creations from other bloggers.

Here are some of my favourite simple Easter crafts for all ages that I’ve got saved onto my Pinterest account.

I’ve split them out into different age groups so that you can quickly find the crafts that are most appropriate for the person that will be doing them – whether that’s you, your children or even your grandchildren!

Easy Easter crafts for pre-schoolers

Get your young kids involved in the Easter experience by teaching them about the story of Jesus and His resurrection in an interactive way that they can really engage with and appreciate.

Craft projects help your pre-school child to develop important skills such as fine motor function skills and learning their numbers and letters and have fun whilst doing it.

Here are some simple to prepare (and free!) Easter crafts for pre-schoolers and nursery aged children.

Fun Easter crafts for elementary school students

This collection of projects contains art projects that are slightly more advanced than the ones above, but they are all still suitable for children.

Finding ways to entertain your children during Spring break can be a challenge – particularly on raining days when they are stuck inside the house.

Organising some fun craft projects in advance means than when you hear the dreaded “muuum, I’m booooored” call from your kids, you’ve got something to focus their attention on without too much preparation needed.

Plus, most of these ideas are educational too – but shush, don’t tell the kids that!

Affordable Easter crafts for adults & seniors

Of course, crafting isn’t just about keeping the kids entertained! We adults love to be creative too. 🙂

There are some wonderful Easter craft ideas for adults and seniors out there that are so fun to make. I like to find projects that are affordable to work on, as I’m often on a tight budget with my crafting so I need to use materials I already own, or ones I can pick up cheaply.

Here are a few of my favourite Easter crafts for adults:

Easter handmade card ideas

Out of all the different crafting projects and techniques, I think card making has to be my favourite.

There’s just something so lovely about taking a couple of hours to craft a unique handmade card for your family member or friend, and then to see their face when they open it up.

50+ Quick & Easy Easter Crafts for Kids & Adults (13)

Even if you send the card in the post so you don’t get to see them open it, you still get that warm, fuzzy feeling inside that you’ve sent something that you know will be appreciated and admired.

Do you send greetings cards at Easter?

One dilemma I tend to face each year is whether to send greetings cards for Easter.

Many of my family members are not religious, yet I still send them Easter cards. I think this is more because they appreciate getting something handmade sent in the post, and the thought and love that goes into making the card, rather than the holiday sentiments it represents.

If you have a family member or friend who is religious, and celebrates Easter as a religious holiday, then sending them a suitably designed greetings card is a lovely thing to do for both you and them.

Happy Easter cards

Do you send cards to wish a “Happy Easter” to your loved ones? If so, do you tend to make the same style of card for everyone, or go more creative with lots of different designs?

I must admit, I tend to get bored quickly – so usually I make different ones for everyone. The only time I really make lots of the same type of greetings card is at Christmas because I have so many to make.

If you’re looking for Easter greetings cards inspiration then you’ve come to the right place!

There are some traditional Easter card ideas included, and a couple of more contemporary, modern designs. The second link down shows how you can make over thirty cards from just one pack of patterned paper – wow!

Personalised Easter cards

If you are making a handmade card and know exactly who you will be giving it to, you could add some personalisation to the card.

Personalisation is becoming a really popular thing to do on cards. I think much of this is due to websites like Funky Pigeon and Moonpig that let you quickly design your own cards on the computer that you can add personal messages to.

You could make a funny Funky Pigeon card on your computer in just a couple of minutes, and get it printed and posted to the recipient by them, so you don’t have to worry about doing the postage yourself.

However, I tend to prefer to create handmade cards myself rather than use an internet card making service, as not only is it more enjoyable for me, but the finished product is then totally unique.

Personalised Easter card ideas could be adding the recipient’s name, making the card in their favourite colours, adding a baby’s footprint or handprint or featuring their favourite type of Easter celebration – e.g. eggs or a bunny.

50+ Quick & Easy Easter Crafts for Kids & Adults (15)

You could even go one step further and arrange a styled photo shoot of your family to use on your Easter cards. I love this photo of these dogs all dressed up in their bunny ears!

Easter greetings & poems

When my Gran receives handmade cards, she appreciated the words that are inside them just as much as the design on the front.

She enjoys reading thoughtful poems inside her cards and often reads the words aloud.

Easter poems come in a wide range of different styles, from religious to humorous.

Here are a couple of my favourites:

Traditional Easter poem

On Easter morn, we celebrate our Saviour;
Whatever people seek in Him, they find.
In history, there has never been another
So holy, sacrificial, good and kind.

His resurrection makes us all immortal;
In heaven, we’ll be together with our King.
Eternally we’ll share in all His blessings;
Happy Easter! Jesus Christ is everything!

Easter greeting for kids

One thing every bunny knows,
is how to make an Easter filled
with lots, and lots of fun! That’s
why this bunny’s hopped your
way and why he’s grinning,
too — he’s bringing Easter wishes
for a “Hoppy” day for you!

Happy Easter To Special You!

How to make money selling Easter crafts

If you’re thinking about making money from selling Easter crafts, then my advice is to get started on your items as soon as possible.

It always takes far longer then you expect to make enough stock to take to a craft show, so the sooner you can get started, the better.

50+ Quick & Easy Easter Crafts for Kids & Adults (16)

Quick & easy Easter crafts to sell at craft shows

I LOVE going to craft shows and seeing all the wonderful handmade creations that the stallholders have made. It always amazes me how creative people are, and the amount of variation available between the different stalls.

I’ve even attended a few craft fairs over the years as a seller. It definitely takes lots of effort to make enough stock to sell at a crafts fair, so it’s important that you have a range of items that are fairly quick and simple to make as you will need to make lots of them.

Here are some ideas for quick and easy Easter crafts to sell at craft shows:

DIY Easter decorations

Another way you can make money from selling crafts at Easter time is to create DIY Easter decorations and sell them over the internet, for example on Etsy or EBay, or even through local Facebook groups, Gumtree or Craigslist.

Make sure you know exactly how much your decoration cost you to make before setting the sale price, and add on a reasonable amount to compensate you fairly for the time it took you to make.

You don’t want to accidentally get your pricing wrong and sell something for less than it cost you to make!

Here are a few DIY Easter decoration ideas that you could sell:

Cheap Easter crafts to make

As I mentioned earlier, I love it when I can save money with my Easter crafts – especially if I’m making something that will only last for one year, or something I will be giving away.

50+ Quick & Easy Easter Crafts for Kids & Adults (17)

One way to make your Easter crafts cheaper next year is to hit the shops just after the Bank Holiday weekend and snap up some clearance Easter decorations.

Stores tend to heavily discount their Easter stock as soon as the holiday is over, so you can usually grab some great bargains and just store the items away until you are ready to start next year’s Easter crafts.

Easter craft ideas & inspiration

If you’ve made it all the way to the end of my Ultimate Guide to Easter Crafts then well done – it’s certainly been a jam-packed journey full of Easter craft inspiration and project ideas.

I hope that your brain is buzzing with wonderful spring craft ideas that you can make for a spectacularly homemade Easter 2021.

What are your favourite Easter crafts? Do you like to make handmade cards, or do you go larger with decorative items for the home such as wreaths or door hangings?

I’d love to hear from you about your favourite Easter crafts, as well as what you are planning to make this year – so please leave me a comment below to share your crafty plans. 🙂
