When folks saw Aisha confirm the renewal, they immediately congratulated her in the comments. "Very exciting news! So glad I get to see your characters' stories continue to unfold on my screen. The news of 9-1-1 season 7's premiere date comes after ABC unveiled their 2023-2024 TV schedule back in May 2023 without the show on the official list. The drama was delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but both groups struck a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) in late September and early November 2023, respectively. Following the news, Deadline reported that the writers' room for the hit procedural drama was back to work on the upcoming season in early October 2023.

What is the plot of 9-1-1 season 7?
Once 9-1-1 began filming new episodes, the show started teasing storylines for the upcoming season. Some eagle-eyed fans already have questions about what's to come for their favorite characters. In an Instagram post uploaded on January 18, folks saw actors Oliver Stark, Ryan Guzman, Kenneth Choi and Aisha Hinds wishing their fans a "Happy 1/18 Day" in a behind-the-scenes video while filming season 7.
"The best day of the year (after March 14, of course) ❤️🔥," the caption read.
Spotting Aisha's character Hen with the captain insignia on her firefighter helmet, fans questioned what this meant for Bobby, the captain of Station 118. "NOW WHY DOES HER HELMET SAY CAPTAIN 🤨🤨" one person wrote. "OMG HEN IS CAPTAIN WHAT HAPPENED?" another asked.

ABC posted the official full-length trailer for 9-1-1 season 7 on February 29, two weeks out from the premiere date. The emotional, action-packed preview reveals that the ship Bobby and Athena boarded for their honeymoon at the end of season 6 will be involved in an emergency at the start of the new season. Season 7, episode 1 is titled "Abandon 'Ships," and the trailer promises a heart-pounding journey ahead. Footage of Bobby and Athena underwater specifically had viewers panicking in the comments:

As ScreenRant points out, it's likely Albert will return for his brother Chimney's wedding to Maddie.
What's more, there's a new character onboard for season 7. On February 23, Deadline announced actor Rick Cosnett will join the cast in the recurring role of cruise director Julian Enes. This leads us to believe that the cruise ship drama will be a key storyline this season.
Why is 9-1-1 moving from Fox to ABC?
According to a story from The Hollywood Reporter in early May 2023, there was one key reason for 9-1-1's move from Fox to ABC. The network chose to release 9-1-1 to lower costs. Since Disney acquired Fox's television studios, both 9-1-1 and its spinoff, 9-1-1 Lone Star are now owned by Disney's 20th Television. This means Fox has to pay licensing fees for each episode to appear on its network. Despite 9-1-1 being the number one broadcast drama among adults 18-49, Fox chose only to renew 9-1-1 Lone Star for season 5, as it reportedly comes with a lower licensing fee.
"Thanks to the creative drive of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, as well as the talented cast, 9-1-1 has been one of the most defining and original dramas on network television over the last six seasons," said Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, in an official statement. "It's a privilege to keep 9-1-1 in the family ... we look forward to telling more heart-racing and uplifting stories about these beloved characters on our air."
Oliver Stark spoke with Variety in May 2023 about switching networks and how it affects 9-1-1 moving forward. As he explained to the outlet, it wasn't a huge surprise to the cast when the news came out about going to ABC. What's more, he's excited to see how the show unfolds in the future.
"There have been rumors for a while swirling around that something like this might happen," he told the publication. "So, it’s not like we were completely in the dark or anything like that. I think, in some senses, it’s exciting. Fox has been a really great home for us and made us feel very welcome ... But there’s also a possibility of now switching over to ABC opening up a new audience for us and exposing us to a new audience and possibly reinvigorating the show."
While Michael Thorn, president of scripted programming for Fox Entertainment said a 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star crossover is "extremely unlikely," Oliver told Variety he'd love to see the 9-1-1 cast collaborate with other ABC procedurals.
"If it is an option, I think we’re always game for it. It’s a lovely thing to see those universes, those worlds collide. I don’t know, maybe it even opens us up to possible other crossover with ABC procedurals. Maybe we end up on The Rookie," he added.
