This easy Philly Cheesesteak recipe with melted provolone cheese, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and leftover pot roast makes one delicious sandwich. Bonus points for it being under 30 minutes from start to finish!

I love when I can make two different meals from the same recipe. This Easy Philly Cheesesteak Recipe came from the leftover meat from this delicious Everything Seasoning Pot Roast. Since the beef roast was slow cooked, the meat was tender, flavorful, and perfect for these cheesesteak sandwiches. Totally a family favorite in my house.

What’s in an authentic Philly cheesesteak?

When making an authentic Philly Cheesesteak, thin slices of beef, typically ribeye are used along with onions and melted cheese all on a toasted Amoroso roll, or a soft hoagie roll. That cheese being a cheese whiz type product. Add caramelized onions for additional flavor. Other areas of the country add peppers and mushrooms and change out the cheese for provolone, American cheese, or mozzarella cheese.

Of course, you can create your own version of the classic philly cheese steak using thinly sliced flank steak, ground beef, or a slow cooked chuck roast, as I did. If you want to change it up, use chicken in place of the beef.

The vegetables I used are were slices of green pepper, red pepper, onions, and mushrooms. If you like it a bit spicy, add slices of jalapeno peppers. I used provolone cheese to top the sandwiches. Pop them in the oven to melt the cheese and served with potato chips for a delicious easy dinner the whole family will love.

Philly Cheese Steaks are great for lunches, dinners, and even tailgating.

Ingredients

  • leftover pot roast
  • green bell pepper
  • red bell pepper
  • onions
  • mushrooms
  • slices of provolone cheese
  • hoagie rolls
  • garlic powder
  • salt and pepper

Easy Philly Cheesesteaks are Quick to Make

This easy Philly Cheesesteak Recipe takes about 30 minutes from start to finish. That’s including prepping the vegetables and meat. Preheat the broiler and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Set aside. Once you have your vegetables sliced, heat a large skillet to medium-high heat with 2 tablespoons olive oil. Add the vegetables and saute until just about tender.

Add the shredded leftover roast beef, season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder; and cook until heated through. While the beef is heating, prepare the hoagie rolls. I like to take a bit of the inside bread out to have more filling than bread. This is optional. Place hoagie buns on prepared baking sheet and pop into oven and allow to toast slightly to a light golden brown. Remove from oven.

Fill hoagie rolls with meat and vegetable mixture.

Then top with slices of provolone cheese. Place baking pan back into the broiler long enough to melt the cheese – keep a close eye on the sandwiches so they don’t burn.

Remove, add mayonnaise, if you like, then serve with potato chips or your favorite sandwich side.
