This is a free crochet pattern for creating the Alphabet letters & Numbers C2C Blanket. You can find the complete pattern below. I have included photos and a video tutorial too.

The toddler stood over the alphabet blanket. Proudly, he proclaimed “A! B! C!…” It was obvious that he was only reciting the alphabet from memory rather than actually reading anything as he was clearly pointing to the wrong letters.

Yet, it was a delight to watch him learn and grow. One day, he would be able to read the C2C letter patterns on the alphabet crochet blanket.

Well, now that we are heading into the Fall and Craft Season, I feel like it’s the perfect time to crochet a C2C blanket that you might give someone as a gift.

It’s the perfect gift for a preschooler who is trying to learn the alphabet, or a preschool teacher for her classroom.

Although this blanket is pretty large, I can totally see it hanging in a classroom or as a nursery decor as a wall hanging making it a perfect personalized wall. If you want to make this pattern smaller, you could simply use the graph (not the written words as they are written for C2C only) and use tapestry crochet and single crochet stitches for each pixel instead of the box stitch as individual squares for C2C.

Fasten off and weave in your ends. Your crochet alphabet blanket is nearly finished.

Block the pieces using a steamer and blocking boards (foam is best for these strips). If you need a tutorial, I linked it in the stitch list.

Once you have blocked all your pieces, sew them together using the mattress stitch.

The Border

Now crochet 1 row of single crochets all around the blanket (crochet 2 sc’s per pixel and 2 sc per corner). It should create a stitch count of a multiple of 4 in the end.

Finally, add the Candy Cane border using the colors hot red and black by skipping a stitch between each color. In the corners, crochet both colors in 1 stitch.

Fasten off and weave in your ends.

FAQs

How many rows in a C2C baby blanket? ›

I generally do a square yard (36"x36") for baby blankets. I say keep going until you reach that. I work very loose, so 52 rows in c2c makes around 5 feet before starting the decrease with worsted weight yarn and a 6mm hook. I generally make baby blankets 30-40" square, just keep going til you get that.

What crochet stitch is used for a blanket? ›

The half treble crochet is a neat little stitch that's perfect for hooking up a quick and simple blanket. You can team this beginner-friendly stitch with a beautifully plumptious chunky yarn and make a blanket in just a few hours!

How to put words on a blanket? ›

Thread your needle. Place your letters on the fabric, then pin them on in the right order and orientation. Push your needle through the blanket over your letter, then tie your knot. Use a simple “over-under” stitch to sew on your letter, then tie the knot and cut the thread.

Should crochet blankets be blocked? ›

Q: Why do I need to block my crochet projects? A: The short list of benefits is getting rid of any curling, improving the drape, evening out the stitches, making the fabric softer, shaping pieces before seaming. One big reason to block your crochet pieces is because you need to shape them before seaming them together.

How many skeins of yarn for a C2C blanket? ›

Probably 16–20 skeins of worsted weight yarn. Crochet will use maybe 10–20% more.

What is a C2C blanket for beginners? ›

Pin it now, make later! 129. Of all the crochet stitches, as a beginner the corner to corner (c2c) can look the most daunting, but it's really not as hard as it looks. Corner to Corner or C2C is a crochet technique that is stitched diagonally from one corner that by the end looks like a textured granny square.

How long does it take to crochet a C2C blanket? ›

The Two Hour C2C Throw is an easy design. The final blanket measures approximately 54 x 54 inches, although with more yarn you can make it as big as you would like! The design is made up of single crochet stitches that are worked in the back loop only.

Are C2C blankets always square? ›

C2C only produces square or rectangular fabric (even when worked in the round, a technique we will not address in this post). Regular crochet begins with a long row on one side of the work and is then added to by working back and forth rows until the desired length is reached.

Is C2C good for baby blankets? ›

This is the pattern I learned from. C2C is my go-to for baby blankets. As for size, continue to increase until your sides are as long as you want. A combo of the decrease and increase allows you to make a rectangular blanket if that is what you want.

What is the strongest crochet pattern? ›

Crochet Thermal Stitch is a super dense and one of the thickest crochet stitches. It's worked on two rows simultaneously which gives a double layer and a super thick and sturdy texture. Thermal stitch is the perfect stitch for potholders, bags, coasters or anything where you need extra sturdiness in crochet.

How many chains should I crochet for a blanket? ›

Let's say I want to make a baby blanket that's 30″ wide, and I've determined that my stitch multiple measures 0.8″ wide. Divide 30 by 0.8 to get 37.5 – which means you need 37.5 multiples (or groups of 3 chains) for a blanket this wide.

What is the softest crochet stitch for blankets? ›

The Tornado Stitch is one of the best crochet stitches for blanket projects since its soft texture and reversible nature make it super versatile!

Is single or double crochet better for blankets? ›

Single or Double Crochet for Blanket: How to Choose

Warmth and Climate: If you need a blanket that provides substantial warmth, single crochet might be the better option due to its dense structure. For a lighter blanket suitable for slightly warmer conditions or indoor use, double crochet could be more appropriate.
