How many secret stars are there? ›

There are 120 Power Stars players can collect in Super Mario 64. Of those, 15 are hidden in secret levels around Peach's Castle. These are known as the Castle Secret Stars. While all these stars are not needed in order to beat Super Mario 64, it is required for players that want to get 100 percent completion.

Two of the earliest Secret Stars you can get in the game are right in the lobby of Peach's Castle, just in the top-right room full of stained glass images of Princess Peach. Diving into the one to the right of the entrance will bring you to a carpeted slide in a dark void with a boxed star at the end.

Secret Stars are hidden stars that can be found in Adventure Forward: Star Savior. Some of them require the player to complete a course in order for them to obtain it. Two of the stars require all eight red coins in a certain stage.

The European flag symbolises both the European Union and, more broadly, the identity and unity of Europe. It features a circle of 12 gold stars on a blue background.

100 Coin Stars appear in no other courses, even if the player manages to collect 100 coins. 100 Coin Stars are unique in that when Mario collects one, he is not ejected from the current course back to the castle. Instead, a textbox appears, and Mario is allowed to continue exploring the course.

The 121st Star is an anomalous Power Star that can be found in many personalized copies. It was one of the most popular rumors when Super Mario 64 was released, as people believed there might be more beyond the 120 standard stars in the game.

121st Star

This star is the 121st and true final star in the game, found in the Grand Finale Galaxy. To unlock it, you must get all 120 stars and defeat Bowser with both Mario AND Luigi. Once you do, you can access this galaxy from the Planet of Trials, in the center. Just speak to the Luma to launch off to the galaxy.
