ENGAGEMENT Mr and Mrs John Nuss announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Bernice to Russell Schel-kopf son of Mr and Mrs Isaac Schelkopf Mr Schelkopf is attending the University of Nebraska college of agriculture where ne is a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity Miss Nuss is employed in Lincoln The wedding will be an ewent of August 26 I I OBSERVES SECOND BIRTHDAY Mr and Mrs Walter Mau and Wilfred of Geneva Mr and Mrs Ervin Heinrichs and family of Strang Mrs Emma Heinrichs Arnold and June of Bruning helped Wanda Mae Heinrichs celebrate her second birthday Tuesday evening at her home with her parents and sister Mr and Ernest Heinrichs and Barbara Wanda cakes were beautiful Her grandmother Mau baked and decorated an angelfood The top was adorned with a tiny May pole with four little dolls going around two carrying candles June Heinrichs her aunt baked an angelfood It was a doll cake the doll on the top with the cake forming the decorated skirt and the two candles After Wanda Mae opened her many gifts ice cream cake sandwiches potato chips and coffee were served 1 English Magazine Has Walton Picture The Journal published at London England contained in its May 3 issue an article regarding the visit of Gerald Walton to his pen pal JIarry Varden a Hairdresser at Clare Suffolk The magazine also published a picture of the two men The article commented on the differences between the shops in England and the barber shops in the United States in regard to hours prices ajnd styles Harold Farrar Has Fatal Heart Attack Harold Allen Farrar son of Baty A and Belle Farrar was born July 16 1891 near Fairmont in Fillmore county He departed this life May 24 1951 at his home in Maywood at the age of 59 years 10 months and 7 days He spent his boyhood days near Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont high school in 1910 January 27 1915 he was married to Eya Alice Limback of Geneva To this union were born five children He moved with his wife to Maywood in the spring of 1919- and had farmed in Lincoln and Frontier counties since that time The last four years he resided in Maywood where he operated a filling station Harold was very active in sports Me was a rhember of the Masonic lodge and the Maywood Lions club He leaves to mourn his passing his wile Eva his children Marjorie Barger of Merced Cal Virginia Erickson of Mullen Dorothy df Denver Col" Wayne and Keith of Maywood his mother Belle of Maywood one sister Hazel Hill of Gridley Cal two brothers Vance and Wallace of Maywood three grandchildren 10 nieces and nephews many other relatives and a host of friends He -was preceded in death by his father who passed away January 2 1946 Funeral services were held Sunday May 27 at 3 at the Methodist church of Maywood Interment was in the Maywood cemetery Those coming from a distance to attend the services were: Mr tand Mrs Lester BargMfea daughter of Merced and Wilbert Ericksen and Children of Mullen Dorothy Farrar of Denver Mr and Mrs Bert A Lynn of Geneva: Mr and Mrs Limback of Coshocton Laurence Farrar and son Lewis of Lincoln Mr and Mrs Les Lowe of Alma Mr and Mrs Lynn Farrar and family of Hershey Mr and Mrs Maynard Tuttle and family of North Platte Mrs Pearl fa*gen and Beryl Allen of McCook Mr and Mrs Ernest Lewis of Farnam and Mr and Mrs Clair Lewis of Wood River Dorothy Trip to Holland Miss Dorothy Softley who is teaching in Germany writes her fiarents Mr and Mrs Ernest Soft-ey about her trip through Holland Belgium and Luxembourg as follows: Chiemsee Dependents School Berchtesgaden Recreation Area Dear folks Time will not permit me to write in detail about our four days in Holland Belgium and Luxembourg May 5 to 8 We traveled about 1500 miles by car I left Chiemsee at 9 Friday evening by train for Munich and on to Bonn arriving at 10 a Saturday morning after a beautiful train ride through the Rhine valley and seeing the Mouse Tower of Bingen and the Loreii At Bonn I joined the other members of the group We reached Nijmegen Holland (near the eastern border) about 5 ml and went to see Father Scholtens who used to be in Friend at the time I was staying with Mrs Moore in Geneva He seemed very glad to see some people from the slates and insisted we have lunch with him He knows the Dawson family of Fairmont very well and corresponds with them After our visit with him we drove to Soltstdijk where we stayed over night Our hotel was near the royalpesidence Sunday morning we were off early driving to Amsterdam north to Valendam a quaint fishing village where the people still wear the old Dutch costumes then on to Haarlem and Leyden to see the tulip fields We had dinner in Amsterdam at the Five Flies a quaint place dating to 1627 and with authentic 17th century furnishings 1 1 Monday we traveled through Belgium seeing Liegp and the Ardennes where the Battle of the Bulge was fought A memorial honors the Americans who cried there War ruins are stilt i very evident We arrived in Luxembourg!
