What does puppy insurance cover?
Accidents happen, especially if you have an adventurous pup that loves getting into mischief. You can’t predict a bee sting or a swallowed sock. But you can count on Fetch puppy insurance to help cover the cost of care when the unexpected happens. We cover unexpected injuries ranging from cuts and broken teeth to ACL tears and bone fractures. If your pet needs surgery, you’re covered. And whatever your vet recommends on the road to recovery, from acupuncture to physical therapy, Fetch has your back.
We’re also here for you when your puppy gets sick, with coverage for illnesses ranging from vomiting and diarrhea to chronic conditions like diabetes and cancer. Need to see a specialist? It’s covered. And unlike other providers, we even cover the exam fees, which can save you around $50 – $250 per visit. Below, take a closer look at some common dog insurance claims and how much Fetch can put back in your wallet.
Vet bill costs are based on U.S. puppies' annual policy terms between 1.1.2021 - 12.31.2022, where the dogs are 0-2 years of age. Fetch pays back is based on a policy configuration of an unlimited max annual payout, an annual deductible of $500 where the deductible has been met and a reimbursement rate of 90%.

Advertising & reward
If your pet goes missing, we want to help. Fetch covers the cost of advertising that your pet is lost and paying a reasonable reward for finding them. Your plan includes coverage up to $1,000 per year.
Name-brand prescription medications & supplements
We cover medicines like antibiotics and insulin, as well as natural supplements like vitamins and herbal therapies, when they’re recommended by a vet to treat a new injury or illness.

Your puppy insurance questions – answered!
When should I get puppy insurance?
The sooner you enroll, the sooner your puppy is covered. Fetch covers dogs 6 weeks and older, but it's best to sign up before they need it. Like other puppy insurance providers, Fetch doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions. That’s why we recommend signing up as early as possible before health issues develop — so you and your best friend can live your best lives together.
What’s not covered with puppy insurance?
Like other pet insurance providers, we don’t cover pre-existing conditions. This is any condition that your pet shows signs of, or occurs before you enroll or during the waiting period of up to 15 days. The good news: if your dog has an injury or illness and then goes 12 months without signs, symptoms or treatment, that injury or illness is considered curable and is eligible for coverage. Curable pre-existing conditions can include UTIs, respiratory infections and broken bones.
How much is puppy insurance?
With Fetch, your puppy insurance cost is based on your dog’s age, breed and location. From there, you’ve got options. Here are the different factors you can customize to make sure your price fits your budget.
Max annual payout
Your max annual payout is the maximum dollar amount you can be paid back each year. Choosing a lower max annual payout will make your price lower.
Annual deductible
Your deductible is the amount of veterinary care you need to pay for yourself each year before we can reimburse you for claims. So if your annual deductible is $300, you have to pay for $300 worth of approved veterinary care before we can start reimbursing you.
Reimbursement rate
Your reimbursement rate is the percentage of an approved claim total that we can cover. For example, if your reimbursement rate is 80% and you submit a claim for $500, we can cover up to $400.
How much does a vet visit cost without puppy insurance?
The cost of vet visits without puppy insurance varies widely and depends on factors like your dog’s breed, age, location and what brings you and your pup to the vet in the first place.Let’s say your French Bulldog puppy has a bout of vomiting and diarrhea (dogs, they’re just like us!). Your vet bill would cost, on average, $905 without dog insurance coverage. Fetch covers up to 90% of your unexpected vet bills after you’ve met your deductible – in this case, $814 would be covered. Getting dog insurance helps your pup get the medical attention they need while also protecting your wallet from unexpected vet expenses.
Is puppy insurance worth it?
If you’re looking for potential savings on future vet trips, the answer is yes. Puppy insurance helps make vet bills more affordable, and you can rest easy knowing you’ll be covered if your pup unexpectedly gets sick or hurt down the road. But if you’re at the vet with a sick pet right now, bear in mind that your current visit won’t be covered because we don’t cover pre-existing conditions. Your pet will be covered for eligible claims once they’re enrolled and the waiting period has passed. Just another reason to sign up today.
